Making Cricut Mats Sticky Again!

I first tried this method over a year ago and then shared it with a video tutorial a few months after that.  I have had so much positive response and questions that I thought I would reshare it with a few more tips that were not included or made clear in the video.  Plus, I had to do my mats today!  I have 5 mats (I think I threw one away before I discovered this method!) and when I am down to only one sticky mat left then I do the other four.

I first clean my mats using warm water, foaming soap, and a kitchen scrub brush.  Sometimes this is all that the mat needs, just to get the debre off of it, to be sticky and usable again.  If after cleaning it is not sticky enough then I use the method shown in the video.  I do not use any type of sticky remover on the mat to get it completely clean.  I do, however, if I think the mat is needing to have the glue mixture applied to it, scrub it harder getting a little more off than just the top layer but if it is still a little sticky that is fine.  I just apply the mixture on top of it!

I then let mine lay out, they are on my bed now, until they are completely dry.  It doesn't take that long but I leave mine alone all day.  I am usually to busy to worry about them anyway.  Then tonight before going to bed I will walk my hands up and down the mats to condition them.  This keeps the paper or cardstock from sticking TOO well!  LOL!!  After this I reapply the top film protector that comes with the mats and they are ready to use when I need them.  If you have any questions please feel free to post them here or contact me at hidinginmycraftroom at hotmail dot com.

I know there are many other methods out there and I have tried several others, this one just works best for me.  I have one mat that I might have to get rid of because even though I was careful, making a cardboard frame, I still got some spray adhesive on the edge where the rollers go.  I think it also messed my wheels up on my Cricut or at least I need to figure out how to clean them off.  So be sure whatever method you try DO NOT get sticky over the 12 X 12 area on your mat.

I hope it helps someone!

Thanks for watching!

Birthday Wishes - PT Paperdolls Challenge

What a crazy day it has been!  I wanted to get this posted earlier but alas sometimes duty calls.  This week's Papertrey Paperdolls Challenge was to use make a card or project using 1) a stamp that has never been inked and 2) a product that is brand new and never been used.  Unfortunately, I had many choices!  I think I kindof misunderstood, but my card is still within the guidelines.  I thought I was supposed to use an older stamp that hasn't yet been inked and a new stamp that hasn't yet been used.  So I did!  However, I did just open the white satin ribbon and I used a PTI cardstock I haven't used before.  Great challenge!  Thank you Michelle!

Here's what I came up with.  I hope you like it!

I left the stickles in a glump which took a while to dry but the effect is so pretty and gives it a nice texture!

Recipe:
Card Base: PTI Smokey Shadow 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  Berry Sorbet 4" X 5 1/4"
Other Cardstock / Paper:  White
Ink: SU Cameo Coral which matches Berry Sorbet PERFECTLY!!, Mellow Moss, Basic Gray, Versa Mark
Stamps: PTI (Papertrey Ink) Year of Flowers: Gladiolus, Guide Lines, sentiment from Asian Fusion
Accessories:  Blender Pen, Cameo Coral Marker, Whisper White Satin Ribbon, SU Oval Punches, and Cotton Candy Stickles

Sending You Smiles Card

Today I combined two challenges:  Mojo Monday Sketch challenge and Splitcoast Stampers color challenge: Pacific Razzleberry Olives.  I was glad to have them both that way I didn't have too many choices.  My oldest left this morning for college.  For various circumstances I was unable to take her, but thankfully she has a friend traveling with her, her roommate and best friend in fact.  I had been doing really well but today I am missing her so much.  I guess the reality kindof hit me like a ton of bricks.  However, we already have a trip planned at the end of September when school here is out for fall break.  My husband's family is in Salt Lake City close to where she will be.  I am sure I will be fine until then.

On a more positive note!!!  I can't believe I already reached 100 blog followers!!  I will be getting the blog candy I promised ready and pictured in the next day or two!!  Thanks so much for all the support!!  Never in my wildest dream when I started a blog did I imagine how much fun it would be and how many friends I would make.

On with the today's creation!  Here is what I came up with, combining the challenges!  I hope you like it!

Recipe:
Card Base: SU  Pacific Point 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  Rich Razzleberry 4" X 5 1/4"
Card front layer:  Old Olive 3 3/4" X 5"
Other Cardstock / Paper:  white
Ink: SU Pacific Point, Rich Razzleberry (sponging)
Stamps: Verve Thoughtful Florals & Fancy Florals Remixed
Accessories:  Square Punches, Rich Razzleberry Ribbon, SU Modern Label & Word Window Punches, Buttons (probably from Oriental Trading Co.), Brads ( I think from Target $1 bins.  I am such a sucker for $1 bins!!), Cuttlebug & Victoria Embossing Folder

Just Because Card - Create a Critter Cartridge

I made this card "Just Because", not for any challenge and not for anyone particular.  But who doesn't need cards to send just to say hello and to send a handwritten letter?  With all the technology, I am certain that receiving a spontaneous handwritten message is not only getting rare but greatly appreciated.  My challenge for myself is that tomorrow after church and maybe a nap I sit down and write three letters!

Card front:  PTI Pure Poppy 4" X 5 1/4" layered on PTI Summer Sunrise 4 1/8" X 5 3/8"

Hello Card - Wall Decor and More Cartridge

I decided to do another Splitcoast Stampers color challenge.  This week it is "Baja Poppy Cakes":  Baja Breeze, Poppy Parade, and Crumb Cakes, formally Kraft.  However, I had kraft laid out but complete forgot to use it!  I could have easily used Kraft for the shadow of the butterfly and thought about redoing it to be "correct", but decided I would leave it as is.  I am such a rebel!  Hope you like it!

Cut at 1".  So it is 1" high not long.

Cut at 2 1/2"

Recipe:
Card Base: SU  Poppy Parade 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)

Super Quick & Easy Christmas Card - Joys of the Season Cartridge

I soooo need to be working on Christmas cards!  I know November will be here before I know it, and I won't have enough cards.  Last year I did so much better.  Over on Splitcoast Stampers there is a challenge thread to make 10 Holiday cards a month.  I participated in that challenge last year; so by November I had about 70 Christmas cards, skipping a month or using a month to make other Holiday cards.  BUT this year!!  Oh my, I don't even want to think about it!

Anyway, so I decided to play around with some retired SU cardstock that I need to use up.  This is what I came up with.  Super easy and quick!  I hope you like it!

Recipe:
Card Base: SU Marigold Morning 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  SU True Thyme 3 7/8" X 5 1/8"

Circle Card & Matching Treat Bag - Forever Young Cartridge

I always love a challenge and this one was a big challenge for me - circle card!  However, I persevered and came up with something.  To see the sketch that Lee Anne came up with and the other submissions click HERE.   If you like challenges (don't we all) and are looking for antoher one, there is a new challenge posted every Thursday over on the Papertrey Paper Dolls blog.  I made this card for a great friend.  One of her twin boys is in the same 1st grade class as my daughter, and she has been taking and picking my daughter for school since she goes that way anyway and so I won't have to get the three younger ones out.  I also made a coordinating treat bag from Forever Young Cartridge to give her with the card.

Here is the card I came up with for the challenge.  I hope you like it!

Here's the set including a matching envelope!
I filled the treat bag with miniature candy bars!!  Who doesn't love chocolate!!

Recipe:
Purse: Cut out of Really Rust, stamped with Really Rust, Why oh, why did SU get rid of that one?
Card Base: White  4 1/4" Circle (folded)  I used my Accucut manual die cutter and circle die putting fold just inside the edge creating a circle card!
Card front:  SU DP Really Rust 4" Scallop Circle layered on chipboard and edges sponged with Really Rust Ink
Other Cardstock / Paper:  Flower image cut from PTI Cardstock Ripe Avocado, Summer Sunrise, & Lemon Tart
Ink: SU Really Rust
Stamps: PTI (Papertrey Ink) All About You & Mixed Messages
Accessories: Cricut and Forever Young Cartridge, SU Jewelry Tag Punch which goes PERFECTLY with PTI Mixed Messages, Hemp, Random Button probably bought from Oriental Trading Company, & Ribbon I found at The Dollar Tree!!!

Thanks so much for checking out my website!

TWO days until my 1st Blog Anniversary and BLOG CANDY!!  WOOHOO!!

Dance, Sing, Live! - Wall Decor and More Cartrdige

Here is a card using a color challenge from Splitcoast Stampers.  One of my favorite challenges.  The dancer is cut from Wall Decor and More Cricut Cartridge at 3 1/4" in Early Expresso and Riding Hood Red.  After putting my layers together I stamped all over with a versamark ink pad then embossed it with a powder mixture I made using SU Glassy Glaze and Comotion's Iridescent #5414.  I really love the way it came out, kindof marbley (if that is a word) looking.  The sentiment from Verve reads, "Dance as if no one were watching, Sing as if no one were listening, and Live every day as if it were your last."  I just love that statement!   I am so happy with the way my card turned out, and it was soooooo easy!

I hope you like it too!

Here's a close up of my embossing!  Marbley, huh?
Recipe:
Card Base: SU  Early Expresso 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card layer:  Riding Hood Red 4" X 5 1/4"
Card front:  Blushing Bride 3 3/4" X 5"
Ink: SU Early Expresso, Versamark
Stamps: Verve - Beautiful You
Accessories: SU Riding Hood Red ribbon, sponge, Cricut and Wall Decor and More Cartridge, embossing powders and heat gun.

Cub Scouts Health Habits Chart

In our church we get many different opportunities to serve.  As of pretty recently I have been asked if I would be the Wolf Cub Scout den leader.  I haven't ever been a den leader before, and I am really enjoying working with the eight year old boys.  Here is my sample chart.  Very simple!  But it got the job done.  Some of the hardest things to pass off in Scouts are the ones that require weeks of charting.  I hope that in making charts in our den meeting the boys will find it easier to complete this achievement found on page 57 of the Wolf Handbook.  Achievement 3a.

Cricut Cartridges used:

tub - New Arrival
hand - A Child's Year
soap - Everyday Paper Dolls

toothbrush - Everyday Paper Dolls

water bottle - Sports Mania
running (playing) man (boy) - Going Places
sleeping boy head - Everyday Paper Dolls
sleeping bag - Everyday Paper Dolls

I just love my Cricut!  It helped in making these charts quick and easy.  There is no way our charts would have been nearly this nice with out it!

Thanks for checking out my website today!

The Cat's Meow Card - Cindy Loo Cartridge - Video #11

Here's a video tutorial of a card I made using the colors from the Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge for this week:  CC281, Crushed Daffodil Pizzazz!  I just love the names of the challenges that  Betty comes up with.  I really like these colors together and can see myself using them together again.

I hope you like it.  Thanks for watching!

So I took the Crushed Concord marker and put in dots for the eyes.

Card front:  SU Daffodil Delight 4 X 5 1/4
Other Cardstock / Paper:  Pear Pizzazz and white
Ink: None, but used SU Crushed Concord marker to ink up sentiment stamp
Stamps: SU Cool Cat ( I said the wrong stamp set in the video!  OOOPS!)

Kids at Temple Square Layout - MM Passport Kit

I made this using the Making Memories Page Kit - Passport.  I got this kit from Crop Chocolate.   It was such a fun kit and I have enough left for at least another double page layout!  I also used an ink block  along the edges from MM Distressing Kit, also from Crop Chocolate.    It has been such a pleasure working with them and being a Chocolatier.  I look forward to making more projects with more great stuff I get from them.

The pictures are from when we took a trip to Salt Lake City, and I just have to give a big shout out to my sister-in-law, Tena!  She watched her 5 kids and my 6 kids at Temple Square for about two hours (some were older to help, but still!!) while my husband and I went inside The Salt Lake Temple.  What a great day!!  She even took these great photos to document the occasion for me!  I don't think I will ever be able to repay her.  She is such a giving person!

Thanks for visiting my website today!

I think it should be a law that we create something, ANYTHING, new everyday!

What a better place the world would be!

Accessories: Punches,  Martha Stewart Border Punch, Corner Chomper, Sponge, dimensionals & Pink Velvet ribbon from my stash!
