Good-bye for now!

My grandmother died yesterday.  It seems like once her body started failing everything started breaking down.  Why is it that even though death is expected when it happens it hurts so much?

I'm so thankful for my wonderful memories!

Maw-maw and my oldest three!
Such an old picture!

Spending the night at Maw-maw's, staying up late, playing Skipbo, Mama Rosa's pizza for dinner, and fried potatoes in the morning.  She would always cook them for me, one of my favorites!

Yes, I was the first grandchild and EXTREMELY spoiled by her.

She even let me drive her big 'ole car (before I was legal!)
So many GREAT memories!  I'm working on getting them all down on paper while they are flashing in my mind.  I'm not sure how long that will last.

I'm very sad that circumstances as they are, husband out of the country, living so far away, I was unable to see her one last time and probably won't even be able to attend her funeral.

My really big regret that weighs heavily on my heart is, after moving away from home, all the unmade phone calls.  I would suggest to anyone reading this: call your loved ones, those you haven't talked to in a while, NOW!!!  Don't let it wait until, like me, it's too late.

Thank goodness I have my faith!  I know I will see my sweet, loving, wonderful grandmother, my Maw-maw again!  So I only have to say good-bye for now!

  4. Laurie, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm praying for God to wrap you in His comfort. I live far from away from family, too, and it is diffucult. I'm sure your grandmother knew you loved her, even though you weren't able to see her one last time. Focus on those wonderful memories-it's great that you are writing them down. This is only a short good-bye...Heaven will be a long Hello! {{HUGS}}

  7. Bless you and your family, Laurie. I am a 74 yr old Nana and please know that your Maw Maw knew how much you loved her. I'm sure even now her foremost wish would be for you to take wonderful care of her great grandchildren. I'm sure she is as proud of you and of them as she can be. And, you will see her again in time. Hugs.

  12. Laurie,

    My heart and prayers are with you. Loss even when expected is hard. I know of others who think this should make it easier, like when the person is sick and has been for some time. While knowing that someone will be leaving you soon gives you the opportunity to not leave things unsaid, and to right the wrongs, it doesn't prepare you for the actual pain when the loss happens. I know because, this is how it went when I lost my father in '97 and I still hurt and miss him everyday. God Bless You.

  14. Laurie, I'm so sorry to hear of your grandmother's passing. It's so hard to lose someone so dear who has so many wonderful and happy memories for us, and whose love we hold so dear. I know what you mean about making the most of each and every day we have with those we love and telling them just how much they mean to us when we have the chance. Over the past few years I've lost a number of loved ones from my son and husband to my sister, dad and inlaws. It definitely teaches you to make the most of every single day, with each and every relationship we value.
    God bless you and keep you close during this difficult time for you and your family......

  23. Laurie, I'm so sorry to read your post about saying "good-bye for now." It's never easy losing a loved one, but the fondest memories truly do help. She is at peace right now and that is definitely worth its weight in gold. Cherish those memories (writing them down is even better) as they will remain forever. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!
