ABC Cricut challenge Letter 'D' tomorrow!!

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Why I didn't craft today!

What a day! I didn't get ANY crafting time even though my husband left work early, took the kids to the park, then McDonald's to play and eat dinner. All I had was the baby but he was cranky and NOT wanting to sleep out of my arms! I did manage to get a little housework done but crafting today had to take a back burner!!

I have high hopes for tomorrow! Are you going to join me in making it happen? For sanity sake!

Doesn't he look sweet?
Don't let him for you!!
And yes, I finally got him in his bed but it's too late to do anything and I'm beat!  I know the picture is grainy but I was too tired to get my camera and just took it with my phone.

Until tomorrow!!

One for the Boys

Did you think I forgot about my challenge for myself?

For my ABC Cricut challenge today, letter 'B', I chose to use Boys Will Be Boys.  I got this cartridge to scrap some pages of my boys and have to admit shamelessly that I haven't even used it yet!!!  But for today I just whipped together a quick card.

Also, Really Reasonable Ribbon is having a challenge #20 'One for the Boys'.  All you have to do is make something using the theme and, of course, ribbon!  Easy, Peasy!

Here's what I came up with:

I just got my Papertrey Ink order in and HAD to play with one of my new stamp sets!
Another goal of mine:  to use all my new sets at before the next release!
I keep ordering every new release but have so many I haven't used!

Rocket was cut at 3 3/4".
I painted the blue with Iridescent Medium to give it a metallic look.
Recipe:
Card Base: SU Brillant Blue 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  White 4" X 5 1/4"   stamped with Brillant Blue
Other Cardstock / Paper:  Real Red, Real Red DP
Ink: Brillant Blue
Stamps:  PTI Background Basics: Twinkle, Tiny Treats: Birthday
Accessories:  SU Polka Dot Real Red, Iridescent Medium, Cricut & Boys Will Be Boys cartridge, Rhinestones and buttons

Thanks so much for visiting me while I am
Hiding in My Craft Room!

Tomorrow (if I get time!) I'll be using a cartridge starting with the letter 'C'.

I'm thinking about revisiting Cindy Loo????

Monday Morning Musings

So I have a lot of people ask me how to you do it?  When do you possibly find time to craft?  And I've been thinking about it .....

I found Flylady several years ago and I really like her cleaning system.  Granted I'm not even close to 'doing' her entire system and oddly enough some of the things she recommends I learned from my mother who was almost always a work out of the house mom.  Now there's a busy lady!

Here are a few things that I've found that help me:

1.  Start a load of laundry every morning!
2.  Even though it sounds funny it does make a difference if you 'shine' your sink everyday!  This is a flylady thing!
3.  Keep cleaning supplies handy!  Like comet, toilet brush, Windex, and paper towels or microfiber towels under each sink.  Flylady calls this swish and swipe.  I have always just called it damage control and I don't like to have to hunt down things when I need them.  I thought if I didn't have time to thoroughly clean the bathroom I could at least wipe the mirror, counters, and swish the toilet water.
4.  One thing I have learned for sure is not to sweat the small stuff!  I've learned to just let some things go and try to realize that my house can wait but my kids, husband and myself can't!  And that means my sanity too!
5.  Which means even if my house isn't 'clean' I still take some time for myself!  It's a must!  I'm a better mom and wife when I do! Whether it's taking a LONG soak in the bath which I do at least twice a week or hiding in my craft room or reading or whatever.
6.  I schedule 'me' time!  If you don't plan it; it won't happen.  I have days designated that are my crafting times and my husband's time to spend with his children!  ;)  No, he's not babysitting or even watching the kids!  It is his time to ENJOY and bond with his children!!!!!
7. One of my favorite Flylady thing is a control journal.  You can read more about it HERE if you are interested. It is basically taking the things that get done or need to get done on a normal day to day basis and making routines and repeating them daily.
8.  I use a timer for cleaning!  It's amazing what you can do when the time is limited.
9.  I get the whole family involved!  Set a timer and do a family 5, 10, or 15 minute tidy!
10.  I don't forget my husband! (well, I try not to!) I have found when I'm doing things for and with him and letting him have his 'guy' time he is so much more willing to help me around the house, with the kids, and letting me have 'my' time to play!!!!

You've Made a Difference

Time for Cricut ABC's!  What's that?  Well, I have Cricut cartridges I haven't used EVER or very little, and I've decided to challenge myself to use them from A - Z.  I'm not going to use all my A's before moving on to a B.  So tomorrow I will be working with a cartridge that starts with the letter B.  HMMMMMM???????  Provided I get time to hideout in my craft room!

Today, for letter 'A', I used A Child's Year cartridge.  Three different cuts!!

The colors I used are from The Color Dare challenge!
Color Dare #99
Basic Gray
Cherry Cobbler
Marina Mist

edit:  I was told that my card also qualifies for The Sentimental Sunday challenge!!  Thank you Cheryl!

I made this card for someone special in my life!  I can't say who; so it will be a surprise!  I hope she likes it!

Here's what I came up with:

Background layer was cut at 5 1/4"
Tag layers were cut at 1 1/2"
Silouette image and shadow was cut at 3"

Recipe:
Card Base: SU Marina Mist 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  White 4" X 5 1/4"
Other Cardstock / Paper:   Cherry Cobbler, Basic Gray, Basic Gray DP
Ink: Marina Mist
Stamps:  Verve 'Because of You'
Accessories:  Cuttlebug & Swiss Dots and Stylized Flowers embossing folders, Marina Mist ribbon, Iridescent Medium, Cricut & A Child's Life cartridge

Happy Bird-day!

I haven't done a challenge over on Splitcoast in a while and decided I would take a reprieve from the kids and make a card using this week's color challenge:  CC314 Soft Breezes for the Cake Walk.  The colors are Soft Suede, Baja Breeze and Crumb Cake.  I wish I could take credit for the fun name but alas it was Peggy!  Thank you Peggy for a great color combo!

I had Straight from the Nest still in my Cricut and decided to use it again!  I LOVE LOVE LOVE this cartridge!

Here's what I came up with:

The sentiment is from Stampin Up Pun Fun
It reads "Happy Bird-day!"

The bird was but from Straight from the Nest at 4 1/2".
I painted a little Iridescent Mdium on the hat for a little shimmer.
Also, I crumbled up the beak to give it a little texture.
And popped up the hat with dimensionals!
Recipe:
Card Base: SU  Baja Breeze 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  Soft Suede  4" X 5 1/4"
Other Cardstock / Paper:   White, Kraft, Baja Breeze DP, Tangerine Tango, paper from SU Parisian Breeze
Ink: Black, Baja Breeze, Soft Suede
Stamps:  SU Pun Fun;  PTI Polka Dot Basics
Accessories:  Cuttlebug & Checkerboard embossing folder, PTI Zig Zag border die, SU Flirty ribbon, Cricut & Straight from the Nest Cartridge cartridge, Iridescent Medium

Monday Morning Musings

What I've learned from my kids.....

1.  Washable doesn't REALLY mean washable!

2.  The Wonder Cleaner that I bought from a door to door salesman works great on carpet to get out poop stains!  Don't ask!!

3.  A person CAN survive with very little sleep for a period of time!  I have yet to determine how long! I'm still alive!

4.  Don't EVER bother putting the vacuum away!

5.  Teenagers need hugs even when they don't 'want' them!

I'm So Proud!

My 6 year old daughter had her first grade program yesterday and I must just say that she is adorable!! It's okay to say that about your own children, right?  She was singing with such theatrics and putting her all into it!  I was and am so proud of her!  Anyway, I knew I would be and made her a card and little bag that I filled with chocolate hugs and kisses to give to her afterward.  She loved them both!  And I love her!

We're on our way!
She was sooo excited!

Dropping her off in her 1st grade classroom!
Her drawing of the American flag was used for the front cover of the program!
My little crafter!!

Here's the set!  The bag was cut from Tags, Bags, Boxes and More cartridge

The princess was cut from Once Upon a :Princess at 4".
Check out those shoes!!
My daughter really appreciated all the extra bling!

Usually I leave the inside blank for handwriting a message,
but to my 6 year old princess 'more' is more!

Okay, we are suppose to share a little bit about ourselves as well!  I know this post is getting scary long, but in keeping with the 'rules' I better share a little!  What do you want to know?  What do you not already know?  Well, for those who don't know ......

I am a mother of actually 8 but one I say I got the easy way!  He was adopted from my first marriage and from that marriage I had two that I had to birth or get the hard way! LOL!!  They are 22, 19, and 14.  I remarried and have 5 children with my husband that are 6, 5, 4, 2, and 2 1/2 months.  I love to craft and really I do sometimes 'hide' in my craft room!  I have to!!!  I am origianlly from Arkansas.  Yes, a southern girl!  But my husband is in the military and so now we live in Arizona.  I love it here!

Some of my hobbies are dancing (only at home), scrapbooking & card making (duh), and reading but here I cheat and really only do audio books anymore while I'm doing dishes, folding clothes, making cards (You get the idea!).  I'm not sure I still know how to read! ha ha!! And when I say I've read a book my 14 year old annoying son reminds me that I didn't really read it!

I've been a Papertrey Paper Doll since the very beginning and feel like we have a great bunch of gals!!
I am so thankful for my blogging outlet and all the friends that I have made.  I've become a little addicted to it and have some pretty big goals that I have set for myself, but my family will always come first.  I'm so surprised and thankful for anyone who is STILL reading! LOL!!

Thanks so much for visiting me while I am
Hiding in My Craft Room!

Don't forget to leave a quick comment to get into the drawing!

Awards!! Awards!!

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!! I received a copy of awards recently!!  I decided I would take the time to play along!  This has been one of the hardest posts EVER!!!  There are so  many great blogs; it was super difficult to narrow it down to only a few.  AND they are in no particular order!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!

Here's one award I received. "A Thing Of Beauty" Award from Karen @ The Busy Bug.

For this award, I must list 5 things which must include why I love crafting, then I must pass it on to 5 other blogs along with why I think they are special.  So here goes!

I love crafting because:

1.  It's my therapy!!

2.  I love the feeling of accomplishment, especially when I like what I've come up with.

3.  It's give me the opportunity to make personalized things for the people I love.

4.  It's a great excuse to get together with friends.

5.  It helps me preserve memories!

Now to share this Award to 5 blogs and tell why they are special.

NOTE: Ladies, when accepting this award, you must list 5 things about yourself (including why you like crafting), pass it on to 5 others, and when you post the award to your sidebar, the award creator would like the award linked to her: gracenotes4today.

1.  Laurie at Soapbox Creations;  I love her creativity and versatility!
2.  Michelle at Michelle's Crafting Corner;  Her creations are so beautiful!
3.  Kristen at Happy Everything;  Her blog name says it all!  Her blog is so fun and cheery!
4.  Lee Anne at My Happy Place;  Her creations are super cute, always with that special touch and detail!
5.  Sara Mac at The Unhurried Life;  I'm just trying to be HER!! She's from Hawaii and such a relaxed attitude! Or at least tying! I want it too! Not to mention her creations are wonderful!

Then Carol at Cricuting Carol gave me two more awards!

and
For this one, I'm supposed to share 8 things about myself and then pay it forward to 8 recipients.  I feel like I've shared quite a bit (more than you probably really wanted to know!) but I will see what more I can come with!

1.  I'm originally from Arkansas!  YEE-HAW!  If you've never been there it's BEAUTIFUL!  They don't call it the Natural state for nothing!

2.  I like roller coasters!

3.  I love to dance!

4.  I drive a big 'beautiful' white 12 passenger van!!  Makes traveling nice though!

5. When I was younger I was in pageants!  YIKES!  They were different than they are now!

6.  I know how to tap dance!  And still have my shoes!

7.  I like scary movies - only PG-13 though!

8.  And I am a Mormon!  (have you seen the commercials?  I just couldn't resist! But really I am!) which means I'm a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Now to share with 8 blogger friends that I admire:

1. Jen at Jen's Ink Spot
2. Patty at LaLatty's Stamp 'N Stuff
3. Jeannette at Cre8tive Play:  It's Cheaper Than Therapy
4. C Stephens at Trade Fish Designs
5. Leslie at Tattered Scraps
6. Amy at Stamp-n-Paradise
7. Suzanne at The Card Yard
8. Anne Marie at Stampin' Anne

I can't wait to visit these blogs again and see more about them!

Thanks so much for giving me with these awards, Karen and Carol!!!

You're Ham-azing!

I have seen other people's ceations where they have completed several, like 4-5 challenges with one card or project.  I do good to get in one and sometimes I combine two, like this time!  How do they do it?  How do they keep them all straight?

Anyway, I made this card for Splitcoast Stampers color challenge:  CC312: Misty Celery Rose! Marina Mist (blue), Certainly Celery (light green) and Rose Red.  I love these colors together!  Great challenge Julia!

And did you know that "March 1 is National Pig Day....who knew??? But let's celebrate it !!! This week's challenge is to make a card with a pig on it.........use at least 2 different patterned papers......and add some buttons! Any sketch."  I got this information and challenge over on Jitterbuggin' Challenge blog.  What a super fun challenge!!!

Here's what I came up with:

Pig was cut at 3 1/2" from Create a Critter cartridge.

Recipe:
Card Base: SU Marina Mist 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front:  Rose Red 4" X 5 1/4",  Certainly Celery 4 1/8" X 5 3/8"
Other Cardstock / Paper:   Rose Red DP (2 styles), Certainly Celery DP, black
Ink: Marina Mist
Stamps:  SU Itty Bitty Bits
Accessories:  Computer for sentiment!, SU word window and modern label punches, Marina Mist ribbon 5/8" & 1/4", Cricut & Create a Critter cartridge, Cuttlebug & Checkerboard embossing folder, and SU embossing folder (dress), buttons, Cotton Candy Stickles on her cheeks to bring out her eyes! LOL!

Boys Will Be Boys!

We Chocolatiers, the Design Team for Cropchocolate.com, were challenged this month to make a 'travel' project.  I know I have said it before but I love Cropcholate.com!  They have GREAT sweet daily deals and many different products and brands!  For my layout I used makingmemories "travel" jigsaw alphabets and mm Varish Airplane Panorama 12 X 12 paper, and Lush Black / Red Paper & Accessories Pack from My Mind's Eye.

Here's what I came up with:

Double Layout

For the cut out images I used:

From Just Because Cards Cartridge:  Rectable scallop image cut at 8", Scallop border cut at 11 1/2", Circle 4 1/4"

Airplanes were cut with Real Dial size ON from Everyday Paper Dolls cartridge at various sizes.
Boy playing with Airplane cut from A Child's Year cartridge at 3".

It might take up the garage (it's in a hanger now) and be an expensive hobby, but look how happy he is!
AND he can't complain about how much I spend!!!

Thanks so much for visiting today!
