merry & bright in July!

The challenge this week is HIMCR #108 - Christmas in July! I've actually been trying to focus on Christmas the entire month and you will probably see more as we get closer and closer to December. We move around with the Air Force and we like to send out a family letter at Christmas to let our friends and family members know where we are and what we've been up to.

I decided to do something fun and whimsical this time!

Here's what I came up with:

Snowman was cut at 3 3/4" from the Doodlecharms cartridge.

I was super lazy!
The snowman and the nose cut at the same time and
Instead of cutting it again or using my Gypsy to 'hide' part of the cut
I just colored the nose with a marker!

Maybe not lazy, maybe I'm clever!

Yeah, let's go with THAT!

Recipe:
Card Base: Bordering Blue 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front: White 4" X 5 1/4", DCWV 3 3/4" X 5
Other Cardstock / Paper: Black
Ink: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie marker, Regal Rose marker
Stamps: PTI Fillable Frames #9
Accessories: Cricut & Doodlecharms cartridge, SU red ribbon, Corner and label punch, CTMH Button Brads, Goolie Eyes!

Playing with Copics!

So I'm loving my new markers! I think the Copic Color Fusion sets really make it easy for this beginner! I just pick a three color fusion pack and those colors work together perfectly! The blending went well but I still need to work on the shadowing and lighting. But it sure is fun playing!

Here's what I came up with:

Back to Christmas in July! This one I believe will be an original. Even though I love the way this card turned out I don't think I'll be mass producing with my Copics just yet! :)

Recipe:
Card Base: Bravo Burgundy 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)

So sorry Amber!

We had rather confusing technical difficulties with blogger last Saturday. Some of the pictures just disappeared and others were well,... I just can't explain it. It was just weird!

Anyway, I was suppose to add Design Team member Amber's to the challenge post and I just kept forgetting. Ever do that, you remember throughout the day but when you are where you can take care of it, it just slips your mind. Well, that was my week!

So here is Amber's HIMCR #106:

Please go and check out her blog, Mama Scraps, for more details and to give her some belated bloggy lovin'! Maybe she will forgive me if we give her enough love! Just kidding, she loves me but still. She deserves it!

There's still time for you to get out your scraps and get your creation entered into the monthly bundle giveaway!

thinking of you

I decided to enter the second and final week of the Splitcoaststampers' color challenge to be in the running for a guest designer position. Since I did it last week I thought I better at least try! They have new color challenges posted EVERY Tuesday!

The challenge this week is to use the following colors: Baked Brown Sugar, Wisteria Wonder, Very Vanilla, and Crisp Cantaloupe. I had to take a little break from 'Christmas in July'. These colors were just NOT going to work. I actually did consider it but ....... NOT! NOPE! No way! These colors were challenging enough for me! You can see more details about the challenge, SCS CC435 A Vanilla, Sugar Crisp, Wonder , HERE. Remember they might have only Stampin Up colors listed but anything that matches can be use. I have a not so up to date color comparison of Stampin Up and Papertrey Ink Colors: HERE! I really need to order the new colors but I haven't ordered from PTI in a very long time.

Here's what I came up with:

Center pieces were cut at 3.5" and outer at 4" from the Artiste Cricut cartridge.

Recipe:
Card Base: Baked Brown Sugar 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front: Crisp Cantaloupe 4" X 5 1/4"
Other Cardstock / Paper: Wisteria Wonder, Very Vanilla, imaginisce All Kinds of Happy
Ink: Baked Brown Sugar, Wisteria Wonder
Stamps: CTMH A Blossom
Accessories: Cricut & CTMH Artiste cartridge, Cuttlebug Perfectly Paisley embossing folder, SU ribbon originals Fairy Tale, CTMH mini Medley Smoothie medallion, SU Pretties kit, SU Pearls, punches, brayer.
Confession: I've had the SU Pretties kit for a looooong time. However, I opened it for this challenge! I don't know if they even still sell it! It's the little extra, 'Dessert', part of the SCS challenge.

Busy! Busy! Busy!

Well, I've been busy but not getting any crafting done. Monday I spent all my crafty time sorting and reorganizing my Stampin' Up new colors! I can't believe they got rid of More Mustard for Crushed Curry! Now I've got a big ole pile of retired colors! I haven't done much I guess since the last change (which doesn't seem that long ago to me) and still have cardstock from then. Boo! Shame on me! Then yesterday my husband had to go in to work late which meant he was home all day and for some reason I get nothing done when he's around. I guess that's sort of a good thing, but still can be frustrating. Then he was gone all evening and I had to run kids everywhere.

Also, I've been very bad and on a bit of a spending spree lately! Ooooo! Bad! I had to put in a Stampin Up order and get all the new colors and I had to put in a CTMH order before the new catalog retired, afraid I'd miss something. Then I bought some Copics! Yippee! And next month I will HAVE to order more CTMH and get the new Cricut Cartridge Artbooking! It looks like another good one!

I don't have a winner to announce this week since we are doing a monthly giveaway that I still need to post a picture of. It is a fun bundle of Christmas in July fn crafty stuff! However, I do have a just because giveaway to tell you about!

A have a Close to My Heart Stamp of the Month - June to giveaway! Donated by Carrie! You can visit her store HERE! Thanks Carrie!

Christmas Cake with a Wild Cherry!

I haven't done a Splitcoaststampers challenge is so long but when Mary entered the HIMCR challenge this week (HIMCR #105 - Red & Green) and combined it with the color challenge going on at SCS (FYI, theirs was posted on Tuesday!) I decided I would check it out! Plus, they are having a two week long challenge and the winners get to be guest designers on SCS! How fun would that be! Thank you Mary for reminding of a place I used to frequent!

The Splitcoaststampers challenge: CC434 is to use Crumb Cake, Gumball Green, and Cherry Cobbler. These are all Stampin Up colors but you can use whatever you have that is a close match. The name of the challenge is Christmas Cake with a Green Cherry! I actually used Wild Wasabi instead of Gumball Green and can I just say that they are soooo close that I doubt if anyone (or hardly anyone) would ever know the difference. Anyway, that is why mine is called Christmas Cake with a Wild Cherry! Heehee! Aren't I cute!

Here's what I came up with:

Puppy was cut at 4" from the Creat a Critter 2 cartridge.
I guess you could say this cartridge has been my focus cartridge for the last couple of months.
So much cute, fun stuff in it!

Recipe:
Card Base: Cherry Cobbler 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" (folded)
Card front: Wild Wasabi 4" X 5 1/4", 3 3/4" X 5
Other Cardstock / Paper: Black, White, Wild Wasabi DP, Crumb Cake
Ink: Cherry Cobbler and marker
Stamps: PTI Mega Mixed Messages
Accessories: Cricut & Create a Critter 2 cartridge, Cuttlebug & Petal a Plenty and Tiny Bubbles embossing folder, Fancy Pants All Fall Gingham ribbon, Copic Opaque White, buttons! Liquid Appliqué.

I finally took the Plunge!

I can't believe it has taken me this long but I finally bought some Copic Markers! I have SU markers and Prismapencils which I still love and use, but after doing some research I decided to get some Copics too!

These Copic Marker Sets, Fusion Sets, can be found for $15.72 at scrapbookpal.com. And FREE shipping when you spend $25! I got these sets because they are grouped by colors that blend well together. Perfect for the beginner, Me!

I am still waiting for a basic set of 24 that I found at Amazon.com. I also got a jar of Copic White Opaque there. I've been playing around with it a little and I believe it's going to solve my white gel pen never working properly or lasting long enough problem. I will share more later! :)

I haven't used my new markers yet (I just got them literally today) but I've been watching some YouTube videos on blending and stuff and I think I'm ready to start playing! I'll let you know what I think when I've used them some! I'm excited to start trying something new!

Here's some information on Copic Markers I found (at the bottom). You can read more and get chart print outs HERE! After doing all my research and reading I decided to go with the Sketch ones. They cost a little more than the Ciao but I like that they have the color names on the lid for quick access and that the oval shape keeps them from rolling (not that I've ever had a problem with rolling markers before, but still). Also, I found a Copic Collection app for my iPhone which keeps up with all the Copic colors, which ones I have in stock and their refills. Which is good because I forget what I have at home and hate accidentally buying multiples unless it's paper stacks then I don't mind so much! ;)

Here are the different markers:
